"WHERE THE CHILDREN SLEEP"
From Nov. 1 - May 7th, the World Press Photo Award Winning photo documentary "Where the Children Sleep" by acclaimed Swedish photographer, Magnus Wennman, will be exhibited throughout Charlottesville in local houses of worship, civic institutions and at the University of Virginia.
In its first phase, from Nov. 1 to December 5, images from the exhibition will be hosted across our community at multiple sites. (For a complete listing of host institutions and when images may be viewed by the public, see below.) In the second phase, all the individual images will be brought together in a united exhibition at the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center (233 4th St NW, Charlottesville, VA 22903), where it will be on display from December 5th through January 18th. In parallel with the exhibition of "Where the Children Sleep" will be an exhibition of art work and writing from local residents, students and adults, undertaken in conjunction with (W)HERE TO STAY?! and the exhibition of Magnus Wennman's photographs. In the third phase from January 28 - May 7th, the exhibit can be found on the grounds of the University of Virginia at "Hotel A." Sojourners-UCC will be hosting several images in February and March of 2019 as well. The exhibit of Wennman's "Where the Children Sleep" is presented in close collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and Fotografiska - the Swedish Museum of Photography. Our local sponsors of the exhibit, and the parallel exhibit of local responses to Wennman's issues, are the Peace Appeal Foundation, the Humanitarian Collaborative of UVA's Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Affairs, Charlottesville High School's Art Department, the Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, and many others.
